No one is more excited than I that Mel Brooks is developing an animated TV series based on his 1987 comedy "Spaceballs."
Like the movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics. Now THERE's a job I could get into; pop culture parodies. That would be almost as cool as coming up with the names for OPI nail polish!

Will we see a resurgence of Princess Vespa, Barfolemew, and of course, JM J Bullock as Prince Valium? Well, Barf would need to be re-cast, though no one could do it justice after the inspiring original performance of John Candy.
Some of the great lines from the original "Spaceballs" include:
"Lord Dark Helmet! So we meet again for the first time for the last time!"
"I bet she gives great helmet."
(And my favorite exchange)
Princess Vespa: I am Princess Vespa, daughter of Roland, King of the Druids.
Lone Starr: Oh great. That's all we needed. A Druish princess.
Barf: Funny, she doesn't look Druish.
Of all the many jokes in this film, Mel Brooks says that the two he is most proud of are the running gag about merchandising ("Spaceballs: the Breakfast Cereal", "Spaceballs: The Tee-Shirt", etc.) and Col. Sandurz's renting "Spaceballs" before it was finished.

I LOVE Spaceballs. Colonel S. renting the movie prior to its release made me laugh hardest, but Vespa made me touch myself.
ReplyDeleteI hated Rick Moranis in everything but Spaceballs.
Spaceballs is what all parodies should be modeled after. I happen to get the G4 channel (with DirecTV) and will set a season pass up for that show.
ReplyDeleteNeed to run... ludicrous speed!
I know this is a sin of epic proportions...but...I have never seen Spaceballs. I hang my tiara-laden head in shame.
