BEFORE..... ...and AFTER!
Here is a copy of my letter to the editor of Redbook and her response:
To: Redbook
Subject: Faith Hill
Importance: High
To whom it may concern,
I am certain that mine is not the first communiqué you have received regarding your retouched cover photo of Faith Hill, but when I stumbled across the altered and unaltered photographs on the internet, I was appalled.
I have met Faith Hill on more than one occasion and she is not only naturally beautiful, but incredibly thin. Your retouched version of Faith makes her look emaciated and more disturbingly, helps perpetuate the ongoing stereotype of the ideal woman as being an unhealthy stick figure. Your version of Faith has arms that appear to be thinner than that of a starving child. And while this may be common practice among fashion magazines, I expect more from Redbook.
In addition to the absurd distortion of her body, her gorgeous 39-year-old face was changed to appear to be in her twenties. I can see no purpose to this, except to cause the other women in her age group to feel grossly archaic in comparison. It's hard enough trying to look like the real Faith Hill, let alone a overly enhanced and misrepresentative version of her.
On a final note, let me add my personal feelings that Faith is a beautiful woman inside and out. What a shame that you could not see that.

Dear Kim,Thank you so much for taking the time to write in about Redbook’s July cover. I appreciate that you shared your thoughts, and I can only say that I will keep them very much in mind with every future cover we do. All of us here at REDBOOK work hard to create a magazine that is inspiring, beautiful AND real, and we will continue in our efforts to do that. I certainly hope you will continue to consider REDBOOK, because I know there are no other magazines out there like ours, who strive to show how real women are living their lives all across America in every single issue.
Thank you.

While I appreciate getting ANY response at all, clearly I have been bulk mailed.
