Perspective

Number of people forced from their homes in California this week = 1,000,000
The current population of Nashville Metropolitan Area = 552,120

Imagine the entire population of Nashville plus all the surrounding counties being forced to leave most of our belongings, mementos, everything we have worked for our entire lives and in some cases, our pets. It is mind-boggling. At this moment, most of the people affected don't know if they have homes to go back to. Who knows how this will all play out? The Wildfires of 2007 will likely be to California what Hurricane Katrina was to Louisiana. It is so hard to imagine that loss when it is on such a grand scale. Personally, I think it is easier when there is a face attached to it. Here's a couple of faces. They could be any of our neighbors:

  1. Wow - - that really puts the whole thing into perspective. I had heard the number - 1 million - and didn't really even think about how many people that truly is. I know that my aunt had to evacuate from Escondido, CA... What a tragedy.
