PROTECT YOUR PETS

Some of these Pet Protection Facts surprised me. Some of them are Holiday-related but others apply year round...

Contrary to popular belief, poinsettias are not toxic, but eating the leaves can upset a dog's tummy.

Chocolate can be deadly. It contains theobromine, which may cause diarrhea, seizures and death.

Macadamia nuts are a popular holiday snack, but they can cause vomiting and balance problems in animals.

If you have a live Christmas tree, make sure your pet doesn't drink the water in its stand. The tree food or preservative in the water can cause nausea.

Beware of electrical cords. Puppies and kitties can be electrocuted if they chew on them.

Onions are more harmful to cats than dogs, but eating a large amount can cause red cell damage even to canines.

Raisins and grapes can cause vomiting and kidney failure in dogs. No one knows why, but according to the ASPCA's poison control center, of the 140 cases of grape cases reported, over 50 dogs developed serious problems and seven died.

  1. I didn't know about the raisins and grapes. The other things...I knew about. Thanks for sharing.
